Why Does Vibrant’s Work Matter?

It doesn’t sit well with us that so many people make huge sacrifices throughout their lives, dedicating over 1/3 of it (or 100,000+ hours), going to work for so little in return. ‘Little’ does not solely refer to financial compensation either. A fair wage is one thing people want and need to feel engaged with their work; but it’s not the only thing.

Employee engagement matters on many levels. Forbes recently reported that the cost of employee disengagement is 34% of an employee’s salary. With disengaged employees often accounting for one third of a workforce this adds up significantly. On the contrary, Engage for Success report that organisations with engagement scores in the top quartile report twice the annual net profit of those in the bottom quartile!

It frustrates us to see companies with so much potential struggle to fulfil it because they’re hamstrung with talent attraction, development and retention problems which cost them a fortune and stop them from being all they can be. It does not have to be that way, and the evidence shows that organisations who are prepared to back their people strategy are better off, and more profitable, for it.

Work can be good for us. It can improve our physical and mental well-being, bring security to our lives, connect us with like-minded people, positively impact how we see, think and feel about ourselves, bring us focus, discipline and a determination to rise to great challenges which help us grow. It can do all this while growing our businesses too.

Of course, there are great employers out there, but they had to start somewhere. We’re making it our mission to find the organisations who aren’t there yet, who don’t know how to get there, who want help so we can support them on their journey to becoming a better performing business via a better business culture.
